Dunham's new practice field being built will be named after one of its greatest players, the school announced Thursday.
The field will be named "Derek Stingley Jr. Field," and it will be a new turf practice field located on the school's campus. The former LSU cornerback and current member of the Houston Texans made a donation to the school for the field, according to the post.
Construction on the field will begin in May and the school expects it to be ready in August.
"It is worth noting that Derek's gift represents the largest single alumni donation in school history, making it possible for us to complete this project and name the field," Dunham wrote in a post.Â
Stingley, a consensus All-American at LSU, was also a standout player for Dunham, where he won the LSWA's Mr. Football award in 2018.Â
"I am happy to give back to a place that generously invested in me, providing me with the foundation to embark on my journey as a young man in this world," Stingley said in the news release.Â
Dunham coach Neil Weiner thanked Stingley.Â
"Derek made his name on the field," Weiner wrote. "Now, his name will be on the field — impacting future Tigers for years to come!"
