There are two things you can always count on this time of year from New Orleans Saints’ defensive end Cameron Jordan.
1. Jordan hosting his annual camp for children.
2. A new hairstyle.
Jordan revealed his latest hairdo Friday morning on the same day that 215 girls and boys went through football drills at the Saints practice facility.
This year, Jordan’s hair is short and blonde on top.
The inspiration behind this look?
“The World Cup just happened,” Jordan explained. “My man (French soccer player) Paul Pogba was one of my favorite guys in the 2018 World Cup. So it started there. Then I was watching the movie 'Demolition Man' the other night. That cemented it. I said, ‘You know what?’ Let’s have some fun with it.'”
The fun didn’t stop there for Jordan. He has just as much fun interacting with the kids at his camp.
The Saints' all-time sacks leader served as quarterback during the eighth annual C3 Youth Football Camp, tossing passes to participants in one of the group sessions. Each camp participant was gifted a backpack, a bobblehead, a lithograph photograph, plus a meal and a sno-ball. Winners of a trivia contest at the end of camp received prizes that included autographed jerseys, gloves and helmets.
Jordan is entering his 16th season with the Saints. He signed a one-year, $7.5 million deal in June in what could be his final season.
“I was going to do this camp regardless,” Jordan said. “The fact that I was able to do it in the Saints’ building right before camp, I’m blessed. Now I have a third of the kids coming up to me and asking, ‘Hey, do you remember me when I first came to camp?’ I love that continuity that these kids keep coming back.”
And Jordan, whose community service off the field has matched his production on the field, says he will keep coming back and holding his camp even after he hangs up his No. 94 jersey for good.
“Absolutely,” Jordan said. “One hundred percent. I don’t sell wolf tickets. I sell genuine love for this city.”
