Former teammates and shared a brief, viral moment in their first WNBA game against each other on Sunday. During the Seattle Storm’s 89-82 win over the Connecticut Sun, Morrow checked in the game and reached her hand out to Johnson for a low five.
Johnson, a rookie guard for Seattle, looked locked in, but ultimately obliged and greeted Morrow, a second-year forward for Connecticut.
Johnson’s recollection of the reunion wasn’t all sunshine and roses, however.
“Yeah, man, she kept hitting me!” Johnson said in the . “She kept pushing. I said, ‘Bruh, aye, Nees. Stop pushing me!’ But I’m just excited to see her flourish because, you know, she was really underrated, especially in college.
“They didn’t think an undersized big could play, [but] she could play. She could play, she could shoot that thang. I’m so proud of her. All of the work she puts in, she’s so humble. And then it just shows [that], ‘Y’all say what y’all want [about] LSU, [but] Mulkey made pros. We’re all doing our thing in the W. Shout out to BG [Brittney Griner], who was on the court, too. It was definitely a Mulkey reunion, but it was beautiful seeing her out there flourish. I love it.”
The Seattle rookie finished the game with 16 points on 3-of-10 field goals, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Morrow finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds.
, Morrow, and Johnson are the three active WNBA players who played their last college season at LSU. Hailey Van Lith, who transferred to TCU before she went to the WNBA, is a guard for the Sun.
“Being able to have Hailey here is another impact offensively and have that threat,” Morrow said, . “It’s great to play with her again.”
