sophomore right-handed starter will not be available to pitch in the Tigers’ series finale with South Carolina on Sunday, coach said on Saturday.
Evans has yet to throw a bullpen since getting scratched ahead of his start last Friday against Mississippi State with arm discomfort. He’s only played catch with teammates twice since then. Once on Thursday and again on Saturday, Johnson said.
“Today was very, very positive,” Johnson said. “It’s not responsible to (throw him) tomorrow.”
Including Evans, LSU had five players listed as out on its SEC availability report on Saturday. Junior right-hander Cooper Moore, junior Jake Brown, senior Chris Stanfield and senior Zach Yorke were also unavailable to play.
Moore is out for the year with an elbow injury, and Brown is likely done for the season as he recovers from a broken hamate bone. Stanfield has been dealing with a hamstring injury since last week, and Yorke suffered a lower-leg injury during LSU’s game on Tuesday against Southeastern h that forced him out of the game early.
Sophomore John Pearson had also been dealing with a hamstring injury heading into this weekend, but he was not on Saturday’s availability report. He did not play in either game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
