Some of the children killed in a Shreveport mass shooting Sunday morning were shot execution style by their own father, Shreveport Police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon confirmed to the Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate.

The shooting, which began at W. 79th Street and spans other houses, left eight children dead and two adult women wounded.

One of the women shot was romantically involved with the suspect, who has not yet been identified to the public, Bordelon said.

It is not clear how many of the victims were related to the suspect or if the woman involved with the suspect was his partner or wife.

The children who died were 1-14 years in age.

The suspect, who is accused of carjacking a vehicle after the killings and leading police on a pursuit to Bossier City, died amid an officer-involved shooting near Brompton Avenue.

The shooting has left the city in mourning, with Mayor Tom Arceneaux saying it could perhaps be โ€œthe most tragic dayโ€ in Shreveportโ€™s history.

ถถา๕h officials offered their prayers and condolences to victims, their families, police officers and first responders.

Bordelon said investigators are working untangle what led to the domestic incident. More information is forthcoming.
