A new coaching staff, a revamped roster and renewed excitement are setting the stage for a memorable football season for the Southern Jaguars. With the Sept. 5 home opener against Kentucky State just weeks away, now is the time to secure season tickets and experience a new chapter for the program.
“We’re excited about the excitement that’s around what we have to bring, and we’re looking forward to it,” said Head Football Coach Marshall Faulk. “I feel really good about the group of guys that we have here.”
Coach Faulk, a Pro and College Football Hall of Famer entering his first season as the Jaguars’ head coach, said the team is embracing the work required to build a championship-caliber program while feeding off the enthusiasm surrounding what many have dubbed ‘The Faulk Effect’ era.
“We expect great things. I’m not afraid to say that,” Coach Faulk said. “I know it’s a new era, but it’s the same standard that we have always had – championships and winning. That’s what we came here to do.”

The Sept. 5 home opener at A.W. Mumford Stadium will also serve as the Pete Richardson Classic. The game will take place on the field named after the legendary Jaguars coach who compiled 134 wins during a 17-year career and is in multiple Halls of Fame. Coach Richardson himself will be in attendance for both the opening contest and other games throughout the season.
“I’m excited about this year,” Coach Richardson said. “I think Coach Faulk is going to do an outstanding job.”
Gamedays on The Bluff will once again feature great food and tailgating traditions that have made Southern football Saturdays a destination for generations of Jaguar supporters. Leading the excitement will be the world-renowned Human Jukebox Marching Band. Dr. Kedric D. Taylor, band director, said Human Jukebox members have been preparing for the season for the past several months and are eager to showcase their skills.
“The students are excited. They’re locked in and the Jukebox is definitely going to take it to another level this year,” Dr. Taylor said.
Southern Football’s 2026 home schedule also includes matchups against h Christian (Sept. 19), University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff (Oct. 3 - Homecoming), Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 7) and Alcorn State (Nov. 14).
