As the holiday season arrives, Gambino’s Bakery at 8646 Goodwood Boulevard is once again transforming into one of Baton Rouge’s most beloved destinations for festive treats, family traditions and timeless flavors.

Throughout December, Gambino’s becomes a wonderland of sweetness, whether you need a small item for an office potluck or a larger dessert tray for a big group of friends.

“We have a wonderful variety of pastries to fit all needs, from cake squares to eclairs and canollis,” said owner Stacey Tate. “We also have a variety of grab-and-go items for any last-minute gatherings.”

Tate said that Gambino’s signature cake, the Doberge, is by far the most popular selection during the holidays.

“You can choose from a variety of flavors like chocolate, lemon and caramel, or you can do half and half,” she said. “Our cakes are made fresh daily in our bakery. Gambino’s uses a true custard for all of our Doberge cakes. Our decorators take extra care to make sure the customers are happy.”

Another popular seasonal offering at Gambino’s are kringle cakes. Similar to king cakes, the kringle cakes feature cream cheese icing with red and green sprinkles. King cake season officially kicks off on January 6, although the Carnival treat is available year-round at Gambino’s.

“The holidays are extremely busy for us, but we begin preparations weeks in advance,” Tate said. “We prepare the staff throughout the year and gather supplies and materials long ahead of time to make sure we have everything that we need.”
