Columnist Will Sutton has something to say about Gov. Jeff Landry's third special session this year. It was held to focus on "tax reform." It included SB2, a measure that wouldn't let legislators bypass voters in choosing which crimes committed by minors should be treated as adult crimes.

"Some simply want to put more people, especially minors, behind bars. The proposed constitutional amendment, if approved by voters, would allow lawmakers to treat 14-, 15- and 16-year-olds as adults without asking citizens if that's what they want," Sutton writes.

Sometimes we wonder if state lawmakers have a sense of irony. Exhibit A: Members of the Senate Education Committee last week denied citizens a chance to speak against a bill that would restrict access to some voices in public libraries.Â
