The 36th judicial district courthouse in DeRidder, ถถา๕h on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026.

A jury has found guilty of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile, both felony charges, .

The panel of six jurors deliberated for less than an hour Tuesday after hearing five days of arguments, witness testimony and evidence presentation in .

Sentencing is scheduled for April 17.

The carnal knowledge conviction carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and indecent behavior with a juvenile carries a sentence of up to seven years in prison.

Witnesses testified that Roberts provided alcohol to her teenage son, nephew and their friends during a July 2024 birthday party before having sex with one of their friends. They said Roberts got drunk at her teenage sonโ€™s birthday party before disappearing to an upstairs game room with a 16-year-old boy.

Misty Roberts

Former DeRidder mayor Misty Roberts claims the two judges of the 36th Judicial District are biased against her in her criminal case.

The victim testified Tuesday that he was drunk the night of the party when Roberts told him he looked good, winked at him, danced with him, took a photo with him, grabbed him and kissed him, according to KPLC. The victim said he felt dizzy and strange, and when Roberts said they shouldnโ€™t continue kissing outside, he asked if they could go upstairs. The victim testified that they had sex upstairs in the game room, and it wasnโ€™t until afterward that he realized what was happening, KPLC reported.

Robertsโ€™ son, nephew and a friend testified last week that they went upstairs and saw the mayor and their friend having sex through blinds in a window of the game room. When Roberts and the victim came downstairs, Roberts and her son got into an argument, witnesses said.

The defense portrayed a case built around rumors shared by teenagers in a small town.

Adam Johnson, a defense attorney for Roberts, asked his clientโ€™s son if he actually saw his mother having sex with his friend. Robertsโ€™ son said he could not confirm it, but it looked like it from what he saw.

Text messages between Roberts and her nephew the day after indicate the mayor was โ€œscared to death,โ€ although defense attorney Todd Clemons pointed out that at no point in the exchange did she explicitly refer to having sex with the boy.

A Door Dash driver also testified last week that he delivered Plan B emergency contraceptive for a customer named Misty to her address a few days before she was arrested and accused of having sex with a teenager.

Duncan Clanton, Robertsโ€™ ex-husband, testified last week that she told him directly that she had sex with the 16-year-old boy, and that they were caught in the act, .

Roberts resigned from her elected position a few days before her arrest.

Judge Kent Savoie, who sits on the Third Circuit, presided over the trial and will sentence Roberts at a later date. He is acting as an ad hoc district judge for the case because of the recusals of the other district judges.

He declared a mistrial last month before a jury was seated after an appeals court threw out one of the felony charges against Roberts.

Roberts was re-indicted on both charges earlier this month.
