Tropical Storm Andrea formed over the Atlantic Ocean Tuesday morning, marking the first named storm of the 2025 hurricane season.Â
Located about 1,205 miles west of the Azores, Andrea was producing sustained winds of 40 mph and moving east-northeast away from the U.S. at 17 mph as of 9 a.m., according to the National Hurricane Center.
No coastal watches or warnings had been issued as of Tuesday morning.

Andrea's life as a tropical storm is expected to be short. Forecasters said environmental conditions surrounding the system will become increasingly hostile to development within the next day, causing the storm to weaken and dissipate later this week.Â
It's in the Atlantic during the first month of hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through Nov. 30. Hurricane forecasters have already tracked so far this year, but so far Andrea is the only one to form.Â
The next storm to reach tropical storm strength will be named Barry. for the full list of this year's storm names.Â
