An Atlantic disturbance that  Tuesday morning is expected to briefly become the first tropical storm of the year as it continues to move northeast away from the U.S.Ìý

The trough of low pressure was about 900 miles east-northeast of Bermuda at 7:30 a.m. and will likely become a short-lived tropical storm later Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Forecasters said shower and thunderstorm activity associated with the disturbance had become increasingly organized. They gave the disturbance a 70% chance of forming into a tropical depression or storm within the next two days.Ìý

The system, however, is expected to encounter weather conditions that will end its opportunity to continue developing as it moves northeast at 15 to 20 mph.Ìý
