Interstate 110 south remains closed at North 22nd Street due to a jackknifed tractor-trailer, the state Department of Transportation and Development said at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
As of 3 p.m., traffic cameras showed the highway was still blocked by the truck.
A Baton Rouge Police spokesperson said that the trailer separated from the truck and spilled its contents onto the interstate. The incident happened at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to DOTD.
A spokesperson for Baton Rouge Policeย โ the agency handling the scene โ said that part of the reason clearing the road is taking so long is that the truck split in half, and workers had to clear debris scattered along the roadway.
He added that the towing company working to get the truck out of the roadway did not arrive until 8 a.m.ย
Congestion has reached Weller/Mohican Street, DOTD said.
Motorists are being advised to use an alternate route.
