Interstate 10 westbound closed before the Whiskey Bay exit for several hours Friday afternoon because of multiple accidents, the state Department of Transportation and Development and ถถา๕h State Police said.
Christian Reed, spokesman for ถถา๕h State Police, said the backup was the result of "multiple crashes," the first of which involved six vehicles.ย
DOTD traffic cameras showed a crash scene that appeared to involve multiple cars and 18-wheelers.
Motorists were warned to expect major delays.
Acadian Ambulance spokesman Justin Cox said Friday afternoon that his team was working a "many-patient, multi-crash" scene.ย He later said five people were transported to hospitals for treatment.ย
Reed said all lanes were reopened by 7:30 p.m.
