¶¶Òõh's legislative auditor will testify before Congress this week about ways to rein in fraud and waste in the Medicaid health care program.

Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera is expected to highlight what he sees as deficiencies in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ audit requirements, a lack of access to federal tax data for state auditors and the federal reasonable compatibility standard's costs.

Purpera has become an outspoken advocate of tighter auditing of the Medicaid program, which ¶¶Òõh expanded through the federal Affordable Care Act in 2016.

"Under current guidelines, auditors are not able to evaluate whether Medicaid programs are effectively monitoring recipients’ eligibility and thus whether they are paying out more benefits than they should," a news release from the auditor's office states.

In his testimony, Purpera also is expected to stress the importance of creating a national, collaborative framework for Medicaid audits with federal funding.

The hearing, which is a joint meeting of the House Oversight Committee's Subcommittee on Government Operations & the Subcommittee on Intergovernmental Affairs will take place at 9 a.m Wednesday, and will be streamed online at .
