A new tax for the district attorney, tax renewals for public schools, a seat in the h House of Representatives and runoff elections for two seats on the first elected St. George City Council were all Baton Rouge-area ballots Saturday.
Follow with us live as we watch the results come in.
The district attorney's tax failed.մdzٱ rejected Hillar Moore's request for a new property tax by a 60-40 margin.
"We're disappointed, but we respect voters just like we respect the juries when they don't come back in our favor," Moore said. "I think the city, the residents, the entire parish, are weary of elections, weary of taxes. I think some parts, maybe more than others, feel that they are already paying enough taxes that should support the offices."

The early voting results are in.Voters who went to the polls before election day rejected District Attorney Hillar Moore's tax proposal.
Meanwhile, all but one of the five tax renewals for the school board passed among early voters; proposal 4 of 5 was failing by less than 100 votes.
In the statehouse race, most voters supported either Terry Landry, who got 323 votes, or Malcom Myer, who got 328. Sonny Marchbanks got 52 votes. But if the full election results mirror early voting, we could have a runoff.
