After attempting to pick up his child, a man shot through a door at four people who were trying to stop him from getting inside, according to Baton Rouge Police, who later found him hiding in the trunk of an abandoned car,

D'ahmad Winfield, 23, of 2008 Nebraska St. showed up at a home in the 1500 block of Apple Street and got into a fight with another person about his trying to pick up the child, according to the BRPD report.

The fight escalated when Winfield allegedly threw an elderly person to the ground, who was trying to help the first victim, and then forced his way into the home after them, according to police.

Investigators say that Winfield then broke down a bedroom door and found another woman, armed with a bat, and his 4-month-old child. The armed woman and the two others were able to force him out of the house twice, according to the report.

The three victims told police that they then heard Winfield say, "get the gun" before shooting through a door that one of the victims was leaning on to keep it closed. The other two adults and the child were in that room too.

Police found Winfield hiding in the trunk of an abandoned car and arrested him. Winfield was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on aggravated burglary, aggravated damage to property, four counts of attempted second-degree murder and simple battery.
