A third person has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in May that Baton Rouge police say was tied an illegal drug sale.
A 17-year-old male was arrested Wednesday at Scotlandville High School on counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of weapons and armed robbery, according to a Baton Rouge Police Department spokesperson.
According to an arrest warrant for 21-year-old Jacody Houston, who was also arrested Wednesday as a suspect in the shooting, officers responded to the 2900 block of Beech Street about 8:20 p.m. May 24, where they found a man — later identified as 20-year-old Johnathan Chambers — suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. A second victim was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers later learned the shooting actually happened at 3311 Hollywood St., where they found multiple bullet shell casings.
During the investigation, officers learned Chambers and the surviving victim were in communication via Instagram with another person pertaining to an illegal drug sale. The victim told police she and Chambers went to Hollywood Street to make the transaction, according to the arrest warrant.
Detectives later determined that the person the pair was talking to on Instagram was Ladarius Lee, who was arrested June 11 in connection with the shooting. Lee told detectives that three people were armed with weapons and shot into the vehicle carrying Chambers and the surviving victim. Lee also told detectives that the three subjects fled the scene.
