Candy has been officially banned at Baker High School after a student consumed an unknown substance on Friday and required medical attention, according to an announcement from Baker School District Superintendent JT Stroder.
Stroder said in a Facebook statement that they cannot confirm what the substance was or when and where the student consumed it.
The school is working closely with Helix Community Schools, the charter group that operates the district, and local law enforcement to determine the source of the substance.
Stroder said that out of an abundance of caution, students are not allowed to bring any candy onto campus until further notice. Additional attention will be given to food items that appear suspicious.
“We will continue to monitor this situation closely and respond appropriately as verified information becomes available. We appreciate the cooperation, patience and support or our Baker families and community,” Stroder said.
