ACT practice test

The Denham Springs-Walker Branch of Livingston Parish Library is hosting a free practice ACT test Saturday from 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Science Saturday

Science Saturday, an exploration of the world of science, gets underway at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Watson Branch of Livingston Parish Library.

The event is held the first Saturday of every month for children ages 5 to 11.

Excel basics

The Denham Springs-Walker Branch of Livingston Parish Library will host a Microsoft Excel class for ages 12 to 18 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday in the meeting room. The class emphasizes the basic features of the spreadsheet program along with entering, sorting and computing data.

Yuletide ukulele

Youths ages 10 to 18 can learn the basics of the ukulele during a six-week course beginning at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Albany-Springfield Branch of Livingston Parish Library. Ukuleles will be provided for the duration of the course.

The course will wrap up with the performance of one song with the library band, The Dewey Decibels, at the annual library Christmas concert.

Makey Makey Music Room

Aluminum foil turns into a drum machine in the hands of youths ages 12 to 18 during Livingston Parish Library’s Makey Makey Music Room, an interactive music experience using everyday objects and Makey Makey.

Cookbook Challenge

Livingston Parish Library’s Cookbook Challenge culinary book club meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Main Branch meeting room. November’s theme is breads.

The club is for home cooks, amateur bakers and wannabe chefs ages 18 and older interested in learning to cook, improving their skills or showing off their cooking chops. A recipe is chosen from a designated cookbook every month and at the next monthly meeting members bring their cooked dish back for tasting.

An evening of console, board, card, role playing, dice and interactive storytelling games for ages 17 and older begins at 6 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Main Branch of Livingston Parish Library. Bring a friend and have some fun. Refreshments will be served.
