At the library

Here are a few items planned for the South Branch. For more information, call (225) 686-4170 or visit  for a complete schedule.

  • Thursday, July 3, 10 a.m., Lady Chops (all ages): Elizabeth Vidos, also known as Lady Chops, is a one-woman drumming sensation who has wowed audiences across the country — including performances with the hit show "STOMP!" She brings drumming to life using buckets, body percussion and more.
  • Saturday, July 5, 10:30 a.m., Friends & Needles: A Fiber Arts Circle (ages 16+): Do you quilt, embroider, sew, crochet, knit, cross stitch, or do felting, tatting, or leather-working? South Branch will be a meeting place where like-minded needle and fiber artists will gather to discuss the trials and triumphs of various kinds of fiber arts. Bring one of your latest projects to work on during this social circle of Friends & Needles as we ask questions, answer concerns, and maybe even learn a new needlecraft. This homage to an old-fashioned sewing circle will meet monthly for two hours of discussion, demonstration and camaraderie.
  • Monday, July 7, 4 p.m., Stained Glass-Inspired Insect Art (ages 13-18): This watercolor project of insects, done in a stained-glass style, is reminiscent of Art Nouveau. It uses oil pastel as a resistance technique along the edges. Registration is required.
  • Thursday, July 10, 10 a.m., Harvey Rabbit (all ages): Meet Harvey, the charismatic rabbit with a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a talent for turning ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. Join him on an adventure where laughter knows no bounds and surprises await around every corner! This fun, energetic show features ventriloquism, puppetry, music, magic, comedy and audience participation.
