To date, 27 projects have been completed, according to the city-parish.
The most recent project completed, marked with a ribbon-cutting on Aug. 1, is a new two-lane road from Picardy Avenue to Constantin Boulevard.
Four projects that are now under active construction or will be soon:
- The clearing and grubbing of an area from Tiger Bend Road to Jefferson Highway, a nine-month project, is expected to begin in September. It’s part of a $24 million project to extend Jones Creek Road from Tiger Bend to Airline Highway. After utilities are relocated, roadway construction will begin with a roundabout at Jefferson Highway.
- Under construction now is a new four-lane road from Perkins Road to the Mall of h, expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027. As part of the $40 million project, two bridges needed for the roadway have already been built over Dawson’s Creek. The new road “will be another way to get from the Perkins Road area to the interstate, without having to use Bluebonnet Boulevard or Siegen Lane,” said Fred Raiford, director of transportation for the city parish.
- A new, four-lane section of Constantin Boulevard that will pass alongside Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital and travel on to Bluebonnet Boulevard, an $8 million project, is also now under construction. It will also provide an alternate route for drivers, as “a mechanism to get traffic off of Siegen and Essen,” Raiford said.
- The city-parish will begin advertising this month for construction bids to widen Old Hammond Highway, from Millerville Road to O’Neal Lane, to four lanes, with a median and sidewalks. The budget for the project is $18.9 million; it’s expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.
