After plans for ’s Chop House in Baton Rouge were , Emeril Lagasse’s restaurant now has a grand opening date.

The celebrity chef’s restaurant will open to the public Thursday, Sept. 24, inside L’Auberge Casino, 777 L'Auberge Ave., starting with a ribbon-cutting from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature the man himself, according to Jerry Abner, vice president of marketing at L’Auberge.

With head chef Brendan Rufty, the new restaurant is Lagasse’s take on the classic American steakhouse with premium steaks, fresh seafood and craft cocktails. With space to seat 175 guests, the restaurant will also include a private dining room, bar and lounge area. It has replaced the former 18 Steak in L’Auberge and will feature expansive views of the Mississippi River.

In August, the restaurant scored second place in the seafood category at Fête Rouge, one of Baton Rouge's biggest food and wine festivals put on by the Baton Rouge Epicurean Society. The dish was a h yellowfin tuna with tartare of caper, sun-dried tomato, shallot, extra-virgin olive oil and caviar.

Lagasse was raised in Massachusetts and built his expertise in kitchens across the globe. In 1990, he opened his flagship restaurant, , which has earned two Michelin stars and an international following. He currently owns restaurants in New Orleans, Las Vegas and three on cruise ships.
