The pho-totchos are now on the menu full-time at Chow Yum in Baton Rouge.

New food and drinks on the block

Chow Yum, 2363 Hollydale Ave., Baton Rouge, has a few of seasonal cocktails on the menu:

  • Camp Anawana, made with bourbon, cachaca amburana, pineapple gum syrup, orange bitters and chipotle chocolate bitters
  • Wendy Peffercorn, made with gin, aloe liqueur, lime, simple syrup and watermelon soda
  • Lost Mai Tai, made with coconut rum, dry curacao, orgeat, lime and orange bitters
  • Flamenco Beach, made with rum, peach liqueur, yuzu, pineapple, passionfruit, lime and lemon lime soda

Also at Chow Yum… the pho-totchos are now on the menu full-time, featuring braised brisket, queso, pho gravy, crispy tater tots, jalapenos, pickled onions, spiced hoisin, cilantro lime aioli and fresh herbs.

Try the July roll of the month atRock-n-Sake, 3043 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, before it's too late. On Tuesdays only, order the "It's Hot in Here," made with pickled wasabi, avocado, tempura shrimp, spicy tuna, eel sauce, voodoo sauce, green onions and fried onions. Dine in to get the special for $6 when you purchase any regular-priced roll.

Celebrate National Chicken Finger Dayon Mondayat Raising Cane's in Baton Rouge. Owner and founder Todd Graves is marking the holiday he created in 2010 by honoring his late friend Chuck Norris and supporting Kickstart Kids.Raising Cane's is donating $1 from every box combo purchased that day, up to $1 million, to help Kickstart Kids continue empowering students through martial arts and character education. Caniac Club members and Hot Fresh News subscribers can receive a free chicken finger with the purchase of a box combo on that day.

Zydeco Soiree: 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Robert A. Bogan Fire Museum, 427 Laurel St., Baton Rouge

Explore the world of rum and tropical cocktails at Martin's at this seated tasting event. Guests will try a selection of Planteray rums, learning the characteristics, production methods and flavor profiles while enjoying tiki-inspired cocktails. Fête Rouge: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at L'Auberge Casino, 777 L'Auberge Ave., Baton Rouge

The Baton Rouge Epicurean Society's Fête Rouge event will feature top chefs from around the city competing for the title of Best Dish, paired with a tasting experience that features more than 30 dishes and more than 250 wines from around the world. Ticket prices, which increase as the event approaches, are available to purchase at . All proceeds benefit the society's mission to raise funds for childhood nutrition and health initiatives, educational programs and scholarships.
