Match Play Golf

Jason Day, the world's third-ranked player, will pair up with ninth-ranked Rickie Fowler in the new two-man format being used for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Australian golfer Jason Day said Tuesday he remains committed to playing in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans later this month after his mother Adenil's successful lung cancer surgery.

"She was told she doesn’t have to do chemo, which is really, really exciting,” Day said during his pre-Masters news conference. “I feel kind of lighter in a sense that my mind is not weighing very heavily on the situation my mom was going through.”

Day withdrew from the Dell World Match Play two weeks ago, citing the distraction over his mother’s health issues. He first said he was taking an indefinite leave from golf, but that changed after she came to the United States and got a better prognosis on her condition. Her surgery was March 24.
