UPDATE, 5:30 P.M. WEDNESDAY

A man sought for questioning in the Philomine Street fatal shooting Sunday in Lafayette is also wanted in Patterson in a shooting injury on Monday.

Lafayette Police are seeking Kirt Favors, 18, for questioning in the shooting death of John Paul Batiste, 37, of Arnaudville.

Batiste was discovered in critical condition, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds, around 5:15 p.m. Sunday. He died later at an area hospital.

The shooting suspect, Brian Harris, 17, was booked late Tuesday on a count of second-degree murder in the slaying after he surrendered to police.

Favors also is being sought in a shooting Monday in Patterson, KATC-TV is reporting. The Patterson shooting happened around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Taft and Hickory streets. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Patterson Police also are looking for Tyrique Jones in that shooting injury. Warrants have been issued for Favors and for Tyrique Jones, both on counts of attempted second-degree murder.

So far, Patterson Police have arrested Charles Joseph Jones on a count of attempted second-degree murder and discharging a firearm in a school zone, and Dewayna Jones on a count of principal to attempted second-degree murder.

Patterson Chief Patrick LaSalle said Tyrique Jones struck a person in the face during a confrontation at the scene of the shooting and then entered a vehicle with Favors and Dewayna Jones. Tyrique Jones then stepped out of the vehicle and stood on the side rail of the vehicle and began shooting into the crowd. Charles Jones then started shooting back at them.

It's unknown whether the Joneses are related.

KATC-TV also is reporting that Favors had been shot and injured in March while playing basketball at the Boys and Girls Club in Lafayette. Favors had been shot multiple times by another teen in that incident.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Favors is asked to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Lafayette Crimestoppers at (337) 232-TIPS.
