A Port Barre man who is a licensed nurse practitioner has been arrested on a charge of cruelty to an elderly person after an investigation by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.
Craig M. Kidder, 55, was booked on one count of cruelty to the elderly or persons with infirmities, according to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
The investigation began after a medical professional at a senior care center reported possible abuse involving an elderly woman. Capt. Lynnette Chavis of the Sheriff's Office Elderly Services Division investigated the complaint and obtained an arrest warrant for Kidder, who authorities identified as a family member and caregiver of the victim.
According to the ถถา๕h State Board of Nursing, Kidder has been licensed as a nurse practitioner since 2016. His license was renewed in December 2025 and is set to expire in 2028.
"This case involved alleged abuse involving family and a family member/caregiver," Guidroz said in a statement. "The prompt action on the part of the medical professional and a thorough investigation has prevented further abuse."
The Sheriff's Office did not release additional details about the alleged abuse.
