A crash involving at least three vehicles at an section of W. Gloria Switch Road on Tuesday morning left one person dead , according to the Carencro Police Department.
Carencro Police Chief David Anderson reported Marcus Patterson, 22, of Lafayette, died from his injuries.
Officers responded to a traffic crash with injuries on W. Gloria Switch Road near Turf Road Tuesday shortly after 7 a.m., shutting down the roadway for a few hours.
According to authorities, Patterson was driving a 2018 Nissan Sentra west on Gloria Switch Road near Turf Road when, for unknown reasons, the Nissan crossed the center line and struck a truck and trailer traveling east on Gloria Switch Road. He added that after the initial impact, the Nissan continued west and struck a second eastbound vehicle, a 2025 Buick, head-on.
Chief Anderson stated that Patterson was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Patterson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, police said.
The driver of the Buick was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
