The New Iberia police department is investigating a shooting that left a 39-year-old male dead.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday, the New Iberia Police responded to a shooting on Daigre Street near the intersection of Tut Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered an active situation, with shots still being fired.

Officers quickly secured the area and detained two individuals at the scene.

Detectives responded to process the crime scene, collect evidence, and conduct witness interviews. At the point in the investigation, it appears an altercation involving a group of individuals escalated, which resulted in the shooting that left a 39-year-old man dead.

All individuals involved have been identified.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
