¶¶Òõh State Fire Marshal’s Office deputies have arrested a Palmetto man in connection with a vehicle fire earlier this year.
Hertley James Andrus, 57, was taken into custody Monday and booked on charges of arson with intent to defraud and automobile insurance fraud.
Authorities said the charges stem from a Feb. 8 fire near the intersection of ¶¶Òõh Highways 359 and 103 north of Port Barre. The fire destroyed a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado owned by Andrus.
The St. Landry Parish Fire District 2 responded to the scene and requested assistance from state fire marshal deputies, who launched an investigation.
Investigators later determined the fire was intentionally set. A warrant for Andrus’ arrest was obtained March 8.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about fire-related crimes is encouraged to submit an anonymous tip through the state fire marshal’s office website.
